लेखिका बचेंद्री पाल एवरेस्ट विजय के जिस अभियान दल में एक सदस्य थीं, लेखिका उस अभियान दल के साथ 7 मार्च, 1984 को दिल्ली से काठमांडू के लिए हवाई जहाज़ से गयी। एक मजबूत अग्रिम दल  हमारे पहुचने से पहले ‘बेस कैम्प’ पहुँच गया जो उस उबड-खाबड़ हिमपात के रास्ते को साफ कर सके, लेखिका एक स्थान का जिक्र किया जिसका नाम नमचे बाज़ार है और वहाँ से एवरेस्ट की प्राकृतिक छटा का बहुत सुंदर निरीक्षण किया जा सकता है। लेखिका ने बहुत भारी बड़ा सा बर्फ का फूल (प्लूम) देखा जो उन्हें आश्चर्य में डाल दिया। लेखिका केअनुसार वह बर्फ़ का फूल 10 कि.मी. तक लंबा हो सकता था।

इस अभियान दल के सदस्य पैरिच नामक स्थान पर 26 मार्च को पहुँचे, जहाँ से आरोहियों और काफ़िलों के दल पर प्राकृतिक आपदा मँडराने लगी। यह संयोग की बात था कि 26 मार्च को अग्रिम दल में शामिल प्रेमचंद पैरिच लौट आए थे। उनसे खबर मिली कि 6000 मी. की ऊँचाई पर कैंप-1 तक जाने का रास्ता पुरी तरह से साफ़ कर दिया गया है। दूसरे-तीसरे दिन पार कर चौथे दिन दल के सदस्य अंगदोरजी, गगन बिस्सा और लोपसांग साउथ कोल पहुंच गए। 29 अप्रैल को 7900 मीटर की ऊँचाई पर उन लोगों ने कैंप-4 लगाया। लेखिका 15-16 मई, 1984 को बुद्ध पूर्णिमा के दिन ल्होत्से की बर्फीली सीधी ढलान पर लगाए गए सुंदर रंग के नाइलोन के बने टेंट के कैंप-3 में थी। कैंप में 10 और व्यक्ति थे। साउथ कोल कैंप पहुँचने पर लेखिका ने अपनी महत्वपूर्ण चढ़ाई की तैयारी शुरू कर दी। सारी तैयारिओं के बीच अभियान चल रही थी, पर्वतारोही दल आगे बढ़ता रहा और 23 मई, 1984 दोपहर के एक बजकर सात मिनट पर लेखिका एवरेस्ट की चोटी पर पहुँच गई।
