Patterns and shapes worksheets for LKG help children notice outlines, recognise familiar shapes and understand simple repetition. Junior Kindergarten, also called JR KG, is a useful stage for exploring these ideas through pictures and play. Begin with a few clear examples, such as a circle, square and triangle, before introducing rectangles, ovals and familiar star pictures.
Talk about the features children can see. A triangle has three straight sides and three corners. A square has four equal straight sides and four corners. A circle has a curved boundary and no corners. A rectangle also has four sides and four corners; the example on this page is longer in one direction. Encourage children to trace the outline with a finger while naming the shape.
Connect flat shapes with everyday outlines. A round clock face can look like a circle, a square window pane like a square and a book cover like a rectangle. Describe the particular face or outline rather than calling every part of a solid object the same shape. Pictures and real objects can support these conversations together.
A repeating pattern follows a rule that happens again. Start with circle, square, circle, square and ask children to say the pair that repeats. After they understand this arrangement, try a group of three, such as circle, circle, square. Naming the repeated group is more useful than guessing from the last picture alone.
Children can build patterns by placing cards or stamping shapes. Let them check the whole strip and change a piece when it does not follow the rule. Creative arrangements are valuable too: a child may make a garden picture without using a repeating pattern. Discuss whether the design repeats and invite the child to explain their choice.
The shapes and patterns quiz includes 20 original LKG-level questions: five easy, seven average and eight thinking questions. Children identify shapes, count sides or corners, match outlines and complete short patterns. Thinking questions include finding a missing shape, recognising a turned triangle and noticing the repeating group. They remain appropriate for early maths learning.
Choosing an answer automatically opens the next question. Numbered buttons and Previous/Next let children revisit questions and change answers before submitting. The final question stays visible with a submission prompt. The 20-minute timer starts with the first answer or navigation action and remains inside the quiz. Results show marks out of 20, unanswered questions and explanations.
Ten clickable games and activities extend the printable shapes worksheet. Children sort cards, match everyday outlines, find memory pairs and build a shape strip. Creative activities include tracing six different outlines with one red pen, drawing a robot and assembling a house from flat shapes. A circle hunt and shape garden encourage observation and construction. Keep sessions short, read instructions aloud when needed and use related nursery resources for simpler practice or Class 1 patterns for a later challenge.
