🚫 Common Verb Mistakes for Class 1
1. Confusing Naming Words with Doing Words
In “The boy runs”, boy is a naming word and runs is a doing word. A naming word identifies a person, place, animal or thing, while an action verb tells us what it does.
2. Forgetting the -s Ending
We say I play but She plays. Practise short sentences with I, he, she, we and they.
3. Confusing Describing Words with Doing Words
In “The happy girl dances”, happy describes the girl, while dances tells us her action. For more practice, use the Adjective Worksheet for Class 1.
4. Thinking Every Verb Is an Action Word
Words such as is, am and are are also verbs. In Class 1, start with familiar doing words and introduce other verb forms gradually.
🎲 Fun Verb Activities for Parents and Teachers
Action Charades: Ask a child to act out jumping, reading or sleeping while classmates guess the verb.
Verb Hunt: Read a short story and ask students to circle familiar doing words.

Daily Action Diary: Write three actions completed during the day, such as eat, read and play.
Grammar Revision: Combine verbs with A, An and The Worksheet for Class 1 to help children form short, meaningful sentences.
Short, regular activities are usually more suitable for young learners than long grammar drills. Encourage children to speak, listen, read and write simple sentences.
