We can also write numbers in expanded form. Expanded form shows the value of each digit in a number. For example, the number 345 in expanded form is 300 + 40 + 5. This helps us understand how much each digit is worth. Another example is the number 567. In expanded form, it is 500 + 60 + 7. The 5 is worth 500, the 6 is worth 60, and the 7 is worth 7. Learning about place value and expanded form helps us read and write big numbers easily.
Let’s practice with another number, like 782. The digit 7 is in the hundreds place, so it is worth 700. The digit 8 is in the tens place, so it is worth 80. The digit 2 is in the ones place, so it is worth 2. In expanded form, 782 is 700 + 80 + 2. This way, we can break down big numbers and understand them better.
Now, let’s try to find the place value of each digit in the number 456. The digit 4 is in the hundreds place, so it is worth 400. The digit 5 is in the tens place, so it is worth 50. The digit 6 is in the ones place, so it is worth 6. In expanded form, 456 is 400 + 50 + 6. This shows how each digit adds to the total value of the number.
