🔎 What Is Ling in Hindi Grammar?
हिंदी व्याकरण में संज्ञा शब्दों के दो लिंग होते हैं—पुल्लिंग और स्त्रीलिंग। शुरुआती अभ्यास में लड़का–लड़की, बेटा–बेटी और दादा–दादी जैसे परिचित शब्दों से शुरुआत की जा सकती है।
पुल्लिंग — Pulling: Masculine grammatical gender.
स्त्रीलिंग — Striling: Feminine grammatical gender.
Hindi also assigns grammatical gender to words naming objects. For example, किताब is feminine and कमरा is masculine. Begin with familiar people and animal pairs, then introduce object words gradually through correct spoken examples.
👧 पुल्लिंग और स्त्रीलिंग के उदाहरण
Read each pair together and explain what the words mean. These examples provide a manageable starting point for Class 1 Hindi gender practice.
| पुल्लिंग | स्त्रीलिंग |
|---|---|
| लड़का | लड़की |
| बेटा | बेटी |
| दादा | दादी |
| नाना | नानी |
| राजा | रानी |
| शेर | शेरनी |
✏️ Ling Badlo – लिंग बदलो
In a ling badlo activity, children write the corresponding masculine or feminine word. Check the direction of the question: it may ask them to change a masculine word to its feminine partner or work in the reverse direction.
उदाहरण: बेटा → बेटी
उदाहरण: दादी → दादा
Avoid teaching one ending change as a rule for every word. Some pairs follow a similar pattern, while others use a different form, such as राजा–रानी. Practise the correct pair and its meaning together.
🧩 Match and Identify Gender Words
For matching practice, prepare cards with related pairs and mix their order. Ask your child to find the partner for each word. Read both cards aloud to check the match rather than relying on where the cards are placed.
For identification practice, make two labelled spaces: पुल्लिंग and स्त्रीलिंग. Give a few familiar word cards and ask children to place each in the correct group. Discuss unfamiliar vocabulary before asking them to classify it.
A picture can help explain a word, but the written word and its meaning should guide the answer. Avoid asking children to decide from clothing, colours or appearance alone.

Begin with familiar pairs, explain their meanings and practise saying them aloud. Follow with matching cards, identification questions and short written answers.
