A 1 to 10 number names worksheet for SR KG connects the numerals children recognise with their English word forms. Senior KG is also called SR KG or UKG. Number names introduce one, two, three, four, five, six, seven, eight, nine and ten. Children learn to recognise each word, match it with a numeral and practise its spelling with support.
Show three linked representations: a numeral, its name and a group of objects. For example, place four counters beside 4 and the word four. Say the name and point to each representation. This makes the word meaningful rather than a spelling learned without a connection to quantity.
Begin with a manageable set of names and revisit them in mixed order. A child who says one to ten correctly may still need help identifying a single written name. Flip cards, matching games and numeral-word memory ask children to recognise a word outside the full counting sequence.
Number words do not all follow simple beginner sound patterns. Say each word naturally and draw attention to its written letters. In three, the last two letters are e and e. In eight, the spelling is e-i-g-h-t. Avoid assuming a child can independently decode every number name before they have met the spelling.
Movable letter tiles let children build and repair words. Start with a visible model, say the letters together and arrange the tiles. The word builder includes one, three and eight. Each letter tile can be used once; duplicate e tiles in three are separate pieces. Undo allows children to reconsider a choice.
Case changes do not change a number name. Three, THREE and three all name 3. The word hunt helps children recognise the same word in different letter styles. Later, use the handwriting approach taught in class to practise writing names clearly on paper.
Word ordering adds number reasoning to reading practice. Arrange One to Ten, remove a name and use neighbouring words as clues. A label such as 9 — Eight needs repair because the numeral and name represent different quantities. Invite the child to explain the mismatch before changing it.
The twenty-question quiz and ten interactive activities provide separate online practice alongside the printable worksheet. Children can flip, match, build words, label a collection and trace all ten names with one red pen. An adult can read prompts and support vocabulary while the child focuses on recognition and spelling. Use short sessions and gradually reduce the amount of model support.
💬 Number Names 1 to 10 Worksheet FAQs
😊 What are the number names from 1 to 10?
They are one, two, three, four, five, six, seven, eight, nine and ten.
😊 How do I teach number names to a UKG child?
Show the numeral, say its name and count a matching group of objects. Then match word cards and practise building the spelling.
😊 What is the difference between a numeral and a number name?
A numeral is a written symbol such as 5. Its English number name is the word five. Both represent the same quantity.
😊 How can children practise number-name spellings?
Use letter tiles, a clear word model and short writing practice. Say the word and notice its letter order before asking the child to write it.
😊 How is three spelled?
Three is spelled t-h-r-e-e. It has five letters and ends with two e letters.
😊 How is eight spelled?
Eight is spelled e-i-g-h-t. Introduce the whole word alongside 8 and a group of eight objects.
😊 Why can my child count but not read number names?
Counting aloud, recognising numerals and reading written words are different skills. Practise matching a few names with their numerals and quantities.
😊 Do One and one represent different numbers?
No. Capital and small letter styles can write the same word. One and one both name 1.
😊 Should children learn all ten spellings in one session?
Use a manageable group based on current familiarity and attention. Revisit names through matching and building before adding more.
