Nouns Worksheet for Class 2 Learning Guide
What Is a Noun?
A noun is a naming word. Nouns name people, places, animals, things and ideas. For an introductory Class 2 lesson, familiar examples such as teacher, park, rabbit and pencil provide a useful starting point.
This nouns worksheet for Class 2 with online quiz and online activities helps children connect naming words with pictures, recognise nouns in sentences and use them in their own writing.
Person Place Animal and Thing
A farmer names a person, a farm names a place, a horse names an animal and a bucket names a thing. These classroom groups help young learners organise examples.
They are different from grammatical classifications such as common and proper nouns. The games begin with the simpler naming groups before adding short extension ideas.
Finding Nouns in Sentences
Read the sentence and ask which words name someone or something. In “The dog carries a ball”, dog and ball are nouns. A sentence can contain more than one noun.
Position alone is not a reliable rule. A noun does not have to be the first word, and not every first word is a noun. Read words in their sentence context.
Using Nouns in Speaking and Writing
Naming words make descriptions clearer. Children can label a picture, caption a photograph or build a sentence using a person or animal noun and an object noun. Encourage them to explain what their chosen words name.
A Small Extension
Common nouns are general names, such as city or child. Proper nouns are particular names, such as Delhi or Riya, and begin with capital letters. A common noun may also begin with a capital letter at the start of a sentence.
Some nouns name ideas or feelings, such as kindness. Pronouns, such as she and they, are a separate word class in school grammar; they are not a type of noun.
Using the Worksheet with Online Practice
