🌈 Start with equal groups
A skip counting worksheet for SR KG helps children count a collection in equal steps. Build small groups first and check that every group contains the same number of objects. Then say the running totals as each group is added. These skip counting by 2s, 3s, 4s and 5s activities connect number sequences with quantities, rather than relying only on memorising a list.
👟 Count by 2s and 3s
For counting in twos, arrange familiar pairs and count 2, 4, 6, 8 and 10. For counting in threes, make groups of three counters and count 3, 6, 9, 12 and 15. Keep the objects visible so children can check the total by counting in ones when needed. Revisit counting numbers 1 to 10 and SR KG counting numbers 11 to 20 for support.
🛞 Explore counting in 4s and 5s
Four counters in each tray can model 4, 8, 12, 16 and 20. Groups of five counters model 5, 10, 15, 20 and 25. Say what the numbers mean: three groups of four contain twelve counters. Three is the number of groups; twelve is the total. Introduce one step size at a time and extend the range according to the child’s understanding.
🐸 Follow a fixed step on a number line
On a number line, skip counting means making equal jumps in the stated direction. Starting at zero and making three jumps of four lands at twelve. A different starting number gives a different sequence, even if the jump size stays the same. The online number line lets children change the step and see every landing. Continue with skip counting in 2s, 3s and 5s for another set of examples.
🔧 Repair and explain number patterns
Skip counting practice worksheets can include missing totals and incorrect steps. Ask children to check the gap between each pair of neighbours. A rule of add four must remain add four throughout the sequence. Connect this reasoning with SR KG pattern activities and connect the dots number activities. Read the starting value and rule aloud before beginning.

💬 SR KG Skip Counting Worksheet FAQs
What is skip counting?
Skip counting means counting in equal steps, such as 4, 8, 12 and 16 when counting forward by fours.
How do I teach skip counting to an SR KG child?
Begin with small equal groups of real objects. Count the objects in each group, then say the running total as each complete group is added.
What are the first five totals when counting by 2s?
Starting from zero, the first five positive totals are 2, 4, 6, 8 and 10.
How can children count by 3s?
Make equal groups of three counters. Add a group at a time and say 3, 6, 9, 12 and 15 while checking the totals.
What is the counting-by-4s sequence?
Starting from zero and moving forward, the first totals are 4, 8, 12, 16 and 20. Each new total is four more than the last.
How can I teach counting in 5s?
Use groups of five counters. Add complete groups and say 5, 10, 15, 20 and 25. Connect each total with the objects.
Does skip counting always start at zero?
No. The start and step must both be stated. Starting at 1 and adding 2 gives 1, 3, 5 and 7, which differs from the sequence starting at zero.
What is the difference between groups and total objects?
Groups are the sets being counted. Three groups of four have three groups and twelve objects altogether.
How can I help a child who changes the step accidentally?
Return to equal groups or a number line. Check that each new group adds the same amount and compare every pair of neighbouring totals.
