🔢 Turn number names into numerals
A write numbers in figures worksheet for Class 1 asks children to record a number using digits. The starting information is a written number name. Read the whole name, say the value and write its numeral. The task strengthens the connection between reading number words and representing quantity with symbols.
🧱 Use place value to organise digits
In a two-digit numeral, the first digit records complete tens and the second records extra ones. For example, seventy-six has seven tens and six ones, so its figure is 76. Each digit needs its correct position. Writing 67 uses the same digits but names a different value.
⭕ Give zero its proper place
A whole-ten name such as fifty needs a zero in the ones position: 50. The zero shows that no extra ones follow the five tens. A single-digit quantity such as two is normally written 2 in this worksheet, without adding a leading zero. For one hundred, the standard numeral is 100.
🔍 Check reading, value and formation
Teen words can be confused with tens words, so compare the full names and their quantities. A learner might know the correct value but still reverse a handwritten digit. Another may form digits clearly while choosing the wrong number. Identify the difficulty before giving extra practice. Read the finished numeral aloud to check that it agrees with the original word label.
✏️ Move from support to independent writing
Begin with a small group of familiar names. Offer numeral cards or a place-value chart, then remove that support gradually. Use the existing download option for paper practice. These online words-to-figures games add construction, correction and decoding tasks; the separate quiz checks recognition. Selected activities extend to 100, so choose a suitable range for the learner.
💬 Write Numbers in Figures Worksheet FAQs
❓ What does write in figures mean?
Use digits to record the number given in words. For example, twenty-two becomes 22.
❓ What is the difference between figures and number names?
Figures use digits; number names use words. Both can describe the same value.
❓ How can I teach words to figures to Class 1?
Read a familiar name, identify the value, write its digits and read the numeral back. Add a small number of new names at a time.
❓ How do children avoid reversing two digits?
Identify the tens and ones separately, then put each digit in its correct position.
❓ Why do whole tens need zero?
The zero in the ones position shows that there are no extra ones beyond the complete tens.
❓ Should two be written 2 or 02?
For ordinary number-writing practice here, write 2. Leading zeros can appear in special codes, but are not needed for these numerals.
❓ How can children distinguish teens from tens?
Read the whole word and connect it with its quantity. Teen numbers have one ten and additional ones; whole tens have no extra ones.
❓ How is one hundred written in figures?
Write 100: one hundred, zero tens and zero ones.
❓ Can an adult read the words aloud?
Yes. Reading support can help a child practise numeral writing while building independent word recognition.
❓ Is a backward handwritten digit the same as choosing the wrong number?
No. Digit formation and understanding the number value are different skills. Check each separately.
❓ Should children write digits or spellings in this worksheet?
For an instruction to write in figures, the answer should contain digits. Writing number names is the reverse task.
❓ Where can I find the worksheet and online answers?
Use the existing page download option for the printable worksheet. End Quiz reveals the online review; each activity has its own feedback.
Read the name, position the digits and check the numeral.
