📖 Lina’s Family Class 1 Maths Chapter 7 Guide

Read the Lina’s Family worksheet guide

This Lina’s Family Class 1 worksheet supports Chapter 7 of NCERT Joyful Mathematics. Children compare length, height, thickness, distance, weight and capacity. Use the existing worksheet download option on this page for paper practice alongside the online quiz and measurement games.

Compare lengths by aligning one end, and compare heights from the same level surface. When measuring with equal blocks, paper strips, finger widths or handspans, place each unit next to the previous one without gaps or overlaps. The count describes the length in that chosen unit.

Handspans and footsteps vary between people. A smaller unit usually needs more repetitions to cover the same length. Use the same unit for a fair comparison. A change in the measuring unit does not mean that the table or ribbon itself has changed length.

Use a simple balance to compare heavier and lighter loads; picture size alone is not evidence of weight. Compare capacity by filling containers with the same full cup. A taller container need not hold more. Practical water activities need adult help, while these online models use stated unit counts.

💡 Measurement Learning Tips

For Parents and Teachers

  • Ask which feature is being compared before measuring.
  • Use the same starting point and identical units.
  • Let children estimate first and check afterwards.
  • Compare safe objects and supervise practical water activities.

For Students

  • Line up the starting ends.
  • Use one kind of measuring unit.
  • Leave no gaps between units.
  • Do not overlap measuring pieces.
  • Read the balance or cup count instead of guessing from size.
  • Say the unit with your answer.

❓ Lina’s Family Class 1 Worksheet FAQs

Which NCERT chapter is Lina’s Family?

Lina’s Family is Chapter 7 of NCERT Joyful Mathematics for Class 1. It introduces everyday measurement and comparison.

How should children compare two lengths fairly?

Place them side by side with one end aligned. Compare how far their other ends reach.

What is a handspan?

A handspan is the distance between the tip of the thumb and the tip of the little finger when the hand is stretched out.

Why do different children get different handspan counts?

Their hands may be different sizes. Smaller handspans need more repetitions to cover the same length.

Why must measuring units have no gaps or overlaps?

Gaps leave part of the object unmeasured. Overlaps measure part of it more than once. Both can give an incorrect count.

Does a bigger object always weigh more?

No. Material and contents matter. Compare manageable objects using a suitable balance rather than size alone.

Does a taller container always hold more?

No. Width and overall shape also matter. Test capacity with the same full cup and the same filling method.

What does the lower side of a balance show?

On a simple equal-arm balance, the heavier load lowers its side. A level balance indicates equal loads.
